Touch Football in Australia Taps InvestStream to Modernise 40 Years of Match Data
Touch Football Australia (TFA), in partnership with New South Wales Touch Association (NSWTA) and Queensland Touch Football (QTF), has engaged data infrastructure specialists InvestStream to transform how four decades of player statistics and game records are managed, maintained, and shared online.
Over the years, the Touch Almanac – curated by long-time historian Cary Thompson – has captured a comprehensive archive of player data, match results, and tournament history, primarily stored across spreadsheets and legacy systems. The archive spans major national competitions within Australia, as well as international events such as the Federation of International Touch (FIT) World Cup.
With the sport’s continued global expansion, the three organisations are now investing in a scalable, centralised platform to better serve players, coaches, supporters, and administrators.
“Cary Thompson has laid the foundation for thoroughly detailed Touch Football historical records,” said Anthony Dudeck, Chair of the NSWTA Board. “This project is about honouring that legacy while building a more connected future. By moving to a modern platform, we’re making decades of Touch Football history accessible and meaningful - not only to recognise where we’ve come from, but to help shape where we’re going.”
“This is a landmark project for our sport,” said Marcus Ashcroft, CEO of Touch Football Australia. “We’re not just digitising history – we’re unlocking it. By modernising the way data is stored and shared, we’re creating a legacy platform that celebrates the contributions of past players while delivering real value to the current and next generation. It’s about making our game’s rich history more visible, more connected, and more impactful than ever before.”
InvestStream, widely recognised for its work in financial services, is now applying the same precision and innovation to the sports sector - transitioning the Touch Almanac into a dynamic, digital interface built on robust data infrastructure.
“This project demonstrates how powerful good data infrastructure can be beyond the finance world,” said Jason Hoang, CEO of InvestStream. “TFA, NSWTA and QTF had the raw data and historical knowledge - they just needed the right tools to bring it all together. We’re excited to help turn years of rich, insightful data into something more navigable, engaging and accessible for everyone who has a shared interest about the great game of Touch Football.”
The upgrade includes:
- Migrating 40+ years of data into a structured, queryable database
- Enabling natural language search for intuitive stats access
- Reducing manual entry and the risk of human error
- Launching a new dashboard and modern user interface
The platform will roll out in phases, starting with improved tournament and player stats, and will set a new benchmark for digital access in grassroots sport.
